Benetti launches ninth 42m Crystal 140 superyacht

Italian yard Benetti has launched the ninth hull in its Crystal 140 range. The 42 metre four deck yacht, which is the flagship of the classic category, hit the water for first time on June 23 at the yard’s Viareggio facility.

The owner of the yacht commended Benetti on the build. “The success of this project is a perfect example of everything Benetti represents as a brand worldwide, and it bears witness to the extraordinary quality of the products built by the shipyard. It will be a pleasure for me to navigate this yacht the world over, showing it off with pride.”

Icon Yachts begins construction on extended refit facility

Construction has started on an extended refit facility at Dutch yard Icon Yachts. Icon’s shareholders voted to build a new floating shed to accommodate a surge in refit projects coming to the yard.

The floating shed will measure 130 metres and be equipped with up to 28 metres of mast clearance. The new facility will increase Icon’s refit capacity by almost 100% and will allow the yard to take on bigger projects.

First hydrogen-powered boat begins three-year expedition


The world's first hydrogen-powered boat has embarked on a three year global voyage from France to Japan to raise awareness of renewable energy.

Energy Observer was originally launched in 1983 as a sailing catamaran before she was converted into a motor yacht and relaunched in Saint Malo last year.

Now sponsored by Toyota Motor Europe, Energy Observer works by producing carbon-free hydrogen from seawater.
